As Sasma prepares to open its new warehouse and blending facility in Halsteren, we sat down with Hans van der Kloot to discuss how the project is progressing. As well as what this means for our business and our customers.

Q: What is the main goal behind building the Halsteren facility?

Hans: The primary objective is to bring all third-party filling activities under one roof. It’s less about cutting costs and more about providing better and faster service to our customers. By centralizing operations, we can extend our product line, streamline logistics, and raise our overall service level.

Q: What will the facility look like once complete?

Hans: Halsteren will house 25 stainless steel tanks, which are scheduled for installation at the end of September. We’ve also invested in a weighbridge for trucks and containers, a CO₂ firefighting system, and a fully computerized inventory and operations system. This ensures that every shipment, whether bulk, truckload, or container, can be tracked with precision and accuracy.

Q: When do you expect to be fully operational?

Hans: We’re aiming for April 2026. In the meantime, the tanks and infrastructure are being put in place. We’ll continue to add systems and test everything through the end of 2025.

Q: What kind of team will be running the site?

Hans: We’ve already hired a plant manager, a forklift operator, and an additional operator who will join early next year. As the facility ramps up, the team will grow, and our existing logistics staff will also spend time between the warehouse and our offices.

Q: What services will Sasma be able to offer here?

Hans: Quite a few. We’ll be able to dilute alcohol to any strength, blend different types of spirits, and run on-site testing in our new lab. The facility will also maintain an inventory of various grades of alcohol and spirits, including bourbon, agave spirit, Scotch, and brandy. On top of that, we’ll be certified for both kosher and organic production.

Q: How does this project change things for Sasma’s customers?

Hans: It’s a big step forward. Having our own facility means more flexibility. Whether that’s blending to specific requirements, ensuring shorter lead times, or offering tailored storage solutions when customers need them. Everything is automated and computerized, so customers benefit from efficiency, traceability, and consistency at every stage.

Q: What’s next as construction continues?

Hans: The tanks will be installed first, and then the contractor will begin connecting all the piping. We’ll be sharing photos, drone footage, and updates along the way, so customers can follow the progress. By early next year, we’ll also move into our new office space on-site.

The Next Chapter for Sasma BV

The Halsteren project represents more than a new warehouse. It’s a leap toward smarter, faster, and more customer-focused operations. With modern equipment, certifications, and a dedicated team, Sasma is setting the stage for the next chapter of growth.
